Auger-electron emitter radionuclide therapy: in vitro study of thallium-201 kinetics and toxicity in cancer cells.

In our research, we focus on Tl-201 – a radioisotope of thallium which is an Auger-electron emitter with great potential in targeted cancer therapy. We present our recent in vitro studies on cancer cells showing Tl-201 radiotoxicity and its distribution among cells. Revealing the sub-cellular localisation of thallium in cancer cells by the Ion Beam Analysis method could enable us to co-relate the observed radiotoxic effect with its position within a cell. This analysis will help to design a targeted radiopharmaceutical delivering Tl-201 efficiently into tumour cells.
