How to get to Cozumel

The island of Cozumel is located in the Riviera Maya. It has an international airport with fligths that connect via USA or from Europe. You can also get there via the International airport in Cancun through a connection flight or by taking a bus to Playa del Carmen and then a Ferry to the island.

Getting to Cozumel from Cancun International Airport
Ground transportation: Cancun Intl. Airport -> Playa del Carmen + Ferry: Playa del Carmen -> Cozumel.

This is the cheapest way to get to Cozumel from the Cancun airport. Once you get your luggage in Terminal 2 and after clearing Customs, proceed to the exit hall and look for the ticket counter of ADO bus services to Playa del Carmen. Buses depart every 30 minutes with a cost of $150 MXN (about $8 USD). The trip to Playa del Carmen takes about 1h 20 min.

Once you get to Playa del Carmen, proceed to the Ultramar Ferry Port, which will take you to the Cozumel Port in the island. The boat leaves every hour with a cost of $200 MXN (about $10 USD). The journey to the island takes about 40 min. Once you get to the Cozumel Port you may take a local taxi service to the hotel, which will charge about $5 USD.

Please note that getting the right time to connect with the ferry transportation may mean one-hour waiting time. If this is the case, you may wonder around Playa del Carmen for a while just to get a feeling of the place, which is nice.

Maya Air is the only company providing a flight service to Cozumel from the Cancun airport. They fly only from Monday to Saturday from Cancun to Cozumel and back.
